MP3 Player/Recorder
A number of MP3 devices also have recording capabilities and can record MP3 files to their flash memory or hard drives. Certain brands, like Iriver (which allows the connection of a separate microphone) are known for their high quality recordings.
However:
1. Some MP3 devices (iPod) will only record at low fidelity bit rates.
2. Some MP3 devices can only use their internal microphone
3. Controls can be very small and difficult to work in situations where a speedy response is needed.
4. Not all Iriver devices are capable of using a microphone. Check their web site as models change.

However:
1. Very expensive.
2. A mechanical (records to tape) technology.
3. A fading technology.
